Town History

Florida, founded in 1971, it was the last municipality founded in Puerto Rico. Florida is known as "La Tierra del Río Encantado" (The Land of the Enchanted River). Originally known as "Florida Afuera" and belonging to Barceloneta (another municipality), this town derives its present name from the abundant flowers and natural resources.
